At the moment there is a bit of a penguin frenzy happening in my studio. I am making for the window space at Craft Vic in Melbourne and there i will have a little exhibition that will run for 3 weeks from the 26th May. Exciting stuff and included in this will be a break in Melbourne when i set it up...Yeah!!!. I have also been doing a few custom order's over the last few weeks.... a penguin off to Japan for a friend's 1 year old and 4 Mosis' off to 4 newborns in various parts of the country.

Happy wednesday to you :)

We had a surprise with lunch delivered to us on saturday by our good friends who also gave Oaks a beautiful present. Thankyou very much Soul for the toy and Dave for cooking lunch (it was delicious). How nice it was to sit down to a hot meal whilst in the middle of baking and making.
The cake turned out well and i decided to go with Tessa Kiros' Vanilla cake recipe from Apples for Jam ( I added beetroot to get the pink for the icing), and while i was at it i made some chocolate and cranberry biscuits while Hal made the Honey Joys.
It was a beautiful party in the park, good food, lovely friends & family and perfect weather. I think they all had a great time..... I hardly saw Oaks as she rode her bike, played games ( thankyou Katie you were a star) and then when a pink fairy dress was given to her she ran around even faster once it was on...... she is still wearing it today :)

It has been a big day moving dirt and road base creating different paths and garden beds. We harvested celery and shallots and admired small details from the garden whilst the kids played around us creating their own wonders with worms and their spades.
It has been a great day :)

some thrifted goodness

Thriftedplastic

Thriftedglass_2

Now here is some thrifted goodness (perfect for a picnic in the park) I just happened to find today...that cake thingie and the cups are just in time for the up and coming party! I love it when you just drift into an op-shop with nothing in mind that you really want to find, then these sorts of things appear in front of your eyes.
The thrifted glass was an earlier find last year which again was a great one (I love it)!
The only thing is that wonderful apple printed jug (from the 70's) only lasted in my hands for 6 months as I accidently smashed it as i got an apple core off the apple corer :( Around for about 30 years and then gone in 6 months...mmmmm.

For more thrifted goodness check out Leahs Flickr site.... Thrifted Tuesday.

the pink age...or is it a stage?

Oaks and i started the morning taking Scout for a walk and bringing this 'Pink' flower home. We have been getting organized for her birthday party (her 1st b'day party) which she is more than excited about especially as there shall be 'Pink' balloons and pass the parcel. Shes already sorting the straws , "only 1 'Pink' one mum".... aahhh we will have to see about some more!
There has also been a request for a cake "pink' preferably (what could i expect). This one is an idea from here but i think it may be this one we will see how it goes! You see i have a bit of an aversion to this colour "pink" but as i hear and see how much she loves it i feel like I am getting used to it!
I still do wonder when it may end or if it ever does?

feeling like a pudding

Pudding_2

I thought i'd share this very easy, very quick and very delicious soft-centred chocolate pudding with you which we had for dessert on saturday night when my mum came over for her birthday. Its one of Bill Grangers.

Eggs

200g good quality dark chocolate
100g butter
3 eggs, lightly beaten
115g (1/2cup) castor sugar
2 tablespoons plain flour

Butter_2

Heat your oven to 200 degrees, place chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, and stir until just melted.
mix the eggs, sugar and flour in a bowl and then gradually mix in the chocolate mixture. Pour the mixture into 250ml ( 1 cup) ovenproof ramekins and place on a baking tray. Bake until the edges are set...about 15 mins. Serve with creme or we served ours with a large dollop of Barambah natural yoghurt.

Weekendgoodness

After a big weekend of eating & (out twice for breakfast but I'm always too hungry to take a photo of my breakfast when out), catching up with lots of family, it was time to put the kids down for a sunday lunch sleep and time for us to relax with a cup of chai and something to read. I was starting to feel like a pudding after all the feasting.

By the way Turquoise wasnt used on saturday night as we ended up cooking a fish from Hot Sour Salty Sweet . In this one you will find an incredible recipe for a whole cooked snapper with a coriander root and peppercorn rub, it really is an amazing dish, and again very simple.
My blog seems to be centering around food lately :)

Today we visited a friend who had her second baby a few weeks ago. The labour was 20 minutes from start to finish, no mid wife just her and her partner and the little one was breech. It all went fine, pretty amazing!
We also have been stocking up on organic veggies for the weekend as my mum celebrates her birthday tomorrow and we will cook her a large feast!
Probably something from here

As we just love to cook i think we may have a slight addiction to cookbooks, i have spied this one. Next on the list.

Have a lovely weekend wherever you are around the world :)

colour on the walls

I have 2 little ones who just love to draw and these holidays they have been getting into painting. I had to put a hold on the whole painting outside on the deck with the easel as i only ended up with blue and green children and no pictures ( and a huge mess). Now i find that the house falls silent and i look to see them in their little area by the book shelf quietly painting side by side.
I have given them my old box of gouache paints and i find that they get right into painting with these strong poster paints.. a bit decadent i know but better to be used than sit in the box and dry out.
