Its a queit one at home today.

Getting little Arti better and organizing for the next week.

singapore and back

It was a whirl wind trip. 

Overnight and back again.....visa run ( but we have to visit again in a month....long frustrating story!).

Such a contrast to here in Bali....so clean, the kids were blown away by it!

Visited China town, ate a delicious lunch. Got caught in the pouring rain while trying to hail a cab for over an hour . Visited the odd shop for necessities not amble shopping.

The zoo was a favourite i heard from M & O and Hal...while i visited the doctor for little A's terrible croup which had turned into more.....

And the best part was catching up and staying with old friends.

Places visited and liked were..... here, here and here (mainly for the awesome bag shop attached and the interior of the cafe).

weather

We try to get to the beach most afternoons so the kids can have a run and we can walk! Back in Australia we lived 30 minutes away from the beach so we didnt really get to it as much as we wanted. Here we are only 5 minutes on the motorbikes so we are making the most of it when the weather is good.

With the monsoon season now there has been some crazy weather. Lots of incredible storms and amazing looking cloud formations mostly in the late afternoon. For the past couple of nights we have been woken from not only the croupy no3 child but also from some intense and very loud thunder and with lightnening luminating our room through the window panes.

Pretty wild actually...(both the storm and the child )!!

Tonight would be a really good night for no3 to sleep through and no storms ......please!

I absolutely love it when your kids inspire you. Right now my 6 and a 1/2 year old is doing just that with all her drawings!  

Decorating her new bed has started and painting is on the go!

 Sandras tutorial ....very cute, and will be one to try over the weekend.

rice

Back in Australia we would buy rice from the local co op, scoop it out of a big container, pay and take it home. I once tried to explain to the 2 eldest kids about how rice was grown in water, on terraces or flat land and the long arduous process from start to finish. 

It is not until now when we see every day in front of us the stages of the rice growing and appreciate it . Its back breaking work, big days and from an observers point of view, a very interesting process especially here. We have seen the many stages, the many colours and right now we are witnessing the time when all the flags, either made from plastic bags or fabric are strung up on bamboo poles and twine as deterrents to the hundreds of birds that descend onto the paddies. Old tin cans are filled with metal objects and are  placed upon poles and the pole pulled by a rope, making a rattling noise to scare away the little blighters eager for a feed.

The noises are constant, the tin cans and the voices of the farmers who carry on with all sorts of catcalls. Even little Art is now immitating them which is an amusement in itself! They dont go home when the rains set in, its not until the day is done, the sun goes down that they ride home on either scooter or push bike and then return before day break to manage the fields again.
